Invest In The Real Estate Bahamas Market For Your Financial Future
Real estate Bahamas style is a whole new experience! Let me tell you about our journey to buying property here in the Bahamas.
First of all, my husband, Brian, and I had been
sailing
all over the Caribbean for eight months looking at property on all of the different tropical islands before finally finding
our dream island. We hiked rain forests, explored undersea worlds, and discovered secret beaches on our quest for the "perfect" island paradise. Our criteria included diverse natural beauty, lots of sunshine, close proximity to other fun islands, great fishing, spectacular diving, good surf, and a welcoming community of interesting people. Little did we know it all waited for us in the real estate Bahamas market.
We met with real estate agents representing some of the most beautiful island properties in the world, but none made an impression on us quite like Charlie Beede of
Long Island, Bahamas.
We arrived on Long Island for the first time in May 2006. We
sailed
our Bayfield 32C, Puff, into the Clarence Town Harbour on the South end of the island and knew right away that we were somewhere special. We had only to look around us to see that to invest in the natural beauty that the real estate Bahamas market has to offer would be a good move for our finances and our happiness. Fresh from the islands of the Eastern Caribbean where beauty abounds and a different paradise awaits at every new anchorage,
Long Island
already stood out as unique.
It's gin clear waters were teaming with fish. You couldn't take a step on the gold, pink, and white sand beaches without noticing another pastel and perfect seashell, each one even more lovely than the last. The beaming sunshine was complimented by cool tradewinds blowing steadily and softly through the ports. And the amazing turquoise sea was the most delectable temperature for a long, lazy swim.
We knew we had to find a Bahamas real estate agent who would show us around this astounding place! We made our way to shore and began to walk down the main road looking for a real estate office and just checking the place out. It was a Sunday, so there weren't many places open. Soon enough though, a man in a truck stopped and asked if we needed a lift. We told him we were looking for someone who could tell us about property for sale on the island and he said he would take us where we needed to go. It turned out the man was from Oregon and he owned a home on Long Island, Bahamas, where he spent part of the year.
He took us to Bahamas Best Real Estate in the settlement of Salt Pond. Bahamas Best Real Estate is owned and run by Charlie and Joyce Beede. Their office is in their home and we were dropped off in the driveway. The nice man who gave us a ride simply honked to notify them that we were there and drove away. Out of the house came a beautiful woman with long, dark hair wearing brightly colored sarong. She greeted us warmly and introduces herself as Joyce Beede. We told her our story and she invited us inside to wait for her husband Charlie to come home and show us real estate Bahamas style!
The house was surrounded by a lush garden and had views of a gorgeous bay. Joyce actually fixed us lunch while we all chatted and got to know each other better. How's that for hospitality? Suddenly, Brian's eyes focused on something that he looked very excited about. It was a framed photograph on the wall of a man holding a surfboard on the beach. "Is Charlie a surfer?" he asked Joyce. Of course her answer was yes, and the next question was naturally whether or not there were waves on Long Island, to which the answer was also... yes. Thus, one of our more elusive criteria was filled.
The famous Charlie Beede arrived shortly after we discovered his illustrious history of surfing the North shore of Hawaii. He was thrilled to show us around the island... even on a Sunday. I thought it a bit odd when he grabbed loads of snorkeling gear and threw them in his truck before we set off to see the available real estate Bahamas property listings. We will never forget that day. Charlie showed us all of the best
Long Island
had to offer. In between viewing beautiful island land and homes, we snorkeled
Dean's Blue Hole
, ate fresh conch salad at Max's Conch Bar, and stopped for cold Kalik's at a roadside package store. We had the best time of our whole, entire Caribbean vacation on Long Island with Charlie and Joyce!
That evening, Charlie and Joyce let us borrow their car to drive back to our anchorage. We agreed they were the friendliest and most fun people we'd met on our whole trip! We wanted them to be our neighbors. The following day, we met more Long Island residents. There were native Bahamians, Americans, and Europeans. Some were full time residents and some were part time. All of them were wonderful and welcoming! All of them agreed that the real estate Bahamas market was a fantastic investment. It didn't take long before we knew we wanted Long Island to be our home, too. We signed on the dotted line before we sailed away and have never regretted it. Investing in Bahamas Real Estate is one of the best decisions we've ever made!
In 2010, we finally built our island home...
