Harbour Island Bahamas! Pink Sand, Breathtaking Beaches, and A Glamorous Escape From Modern Society...

The locals call Harbour Island Bahamas, "Briland," but maybe we should call it Xanadu. The dictionary definition of Xanadu is "a beautiful, idyllic place." Harbour Island is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Pink sand beaches are the result of crushed coral mixing in with the sand. Endless blue skies and gin clear water stretching to the horizon. Palm trees and horses roaming along the shore. Seashell colored island homes line small streets with happy people strolling along them.

It's no wonder that Harbour Island Bahamas is a favorite among the rich and famous crowd. They have their choice of vacationing on any beach in the world, this is where they go...

This tiny Bahamian island is a very small slice of heaven off the north east coast of Eleuthera. Considered one of the out islands of the Bahamas, it has only one town, Dunmore Town. It is named after the Earl of Dunmore who served as the Governor of the Bahamas in the late 18th century. He owned a home in this out of the way tropical paradise.

The key to finding what you're looking for here is to ask a local! Everyone here is friendly and helpful. If you are staying in a villa, you can have your groceries delivered. Just call Johnson's Groceries at 242-333-2279. Bring US dollars, or exchange for Bahamian dollars, both are accepted and the exchange rate is the same. The Royal Bank of Canada on the island has an ATM machine, but hours are limited.

Internet access may be limited. There are a couple of places to access the internet on the island. Exactly who is currently offering internet access does change often, so it's best to ask around when you get there. You can pretty much count on finding it somewhere though.

Medical facilities are limited, but there is a clinic on the island. For anything major, you would have to be flown out to Nassau or Miami.

Don't forget to try the cracked conch!

Go horseback riding on the pink sands beach. Love to fish? Get a local guide to take you bonefishing. Prefer your independence? Rent a boat and explore the beautiful island waters yourself. Adventure lover? Go diving with Valentine's Dive Center. It's also really fun to take a day trip to Eleuthera and see the Preacher's Cave, Surfer's Beach, and the Glass Window.

NIGHTLIFE

1)Gusty's This bar gets started around 9 PM. It couldn't be a cooler place to hang out and have a drink with friends. It's on a bluff and has a sand floor. There is usually dancing with music provided by a band or a DJ.

2)Seagrapes An unassuming concrete building, the plain facade disguises the best kept secret spot for live music. Fantastic local bands perform rake 'n scrape, calypso, and reggae dance music inside.

3)Vic-Hum Club A local's hangout, this club is the kind of hole in the wall place where you can get a cold beer 24 hours a day and watch the locals play basketball or dance the night away. Very laid back.
