Why should you visit Grand Bahama Island for your vacation?

Well, if you love tropical islands, clear turquoise water, and beautiful, white beaches, but want to have all the modern conveniences at hand, then you'll love Grand Bahamas Island! It's hard to believe that the second most populated island in the entire Bahamas had only about 500 people living here at recently as 1950!

Grand Bahama is located in the Northern Bahamas and it is the fourth largest of the Bahamas Islands. It lies only 55 miles off the state of Florida.

TOP TIPS FOR GRAND BAHAMA

1)If you're staying in the Freeport/Lucaya area, be sure to rent a car, grab a taxi, or hop on the bus and take a trip to West End. It is the capitol and the oldest settlement on Grand Bahama. There is a beautiful beach there and you can always find a place to grab a bite to eat.

2)Escape to Barbary Beach, the most secluded beach on the East End of the island, lots of beautiful sea shells and a place you might have all to yourself!

3)Visit Gold Rock Beach, 25 miles East of Lucaya.It's where the locals go, especially on the weekends.

4)Watersports anyone? Parasail, hobie cat sailing, wave runners, and a water trampoline can all be found at the Lucayan Beach across from Port Lucaya.

5)Visit the Lucayan National Park and go on a kayak or cave tour.

Grand Bahama was a pretty quiet place until American financier, Wallace Groves, began developing it with the vision of the island becoming a resort destination for wealthy Americans, like Cuba was at that time. Things have been booming on this exciting island ever since. People continue to invest and build more resorts, condos, marinas, and casinos on this lovely island. The main cities on the island are Freeport, Lucaya, and West End.

DAYTIME FUN

1)Go horseback riding on one of Grand Bahama's many gorgeous beaches!

2)Shopping at Lucaya marketplace! They have every kind of shop, boutique, and eatery you can imagine.

5)Just do nothing! Lie on the beach with a good book and RELAX.

1)Grand Bahama's Rum Runners, mentioned above, is jumpin' at night too! Music, drink specials, fun atmosphere!

2)Pub at Port Lucaya This place had great music, great bartenders, and a lively outdoor atmosphere.

3)Club Fortuna in Freeport is lots of fun with live stage performances.

4)The Prop Club at the Our Lucaya resort property (which combines the Sheraton and the Westin) welcomes everyone, whether you are staying at the hotel or not. It is an indoor/outdoor beach bar with live music or a DJ usually.
