TOP TIPS FOR GRAND BAHAMA
1)If you're staying in the Freeport/Lucaya area, be sure to rent a car, grab a taxi, or hop on the bus and take a trip to West End. It is the capitol and the oldest settlement on Grand Bahama. There is a beautiful beach there and you can always find a place to grab a bite to eat. 2)Escape to Barbary Beach, the most secluded beach on the East End of the island, lots of beautiful sea shells and a place you might have all to yourself! 3)Visit Gold Rock Beach, 25 miles East of Lucaya.It's where the locals go, especially on the weekends. 4)Watersports anyone? Parasail, hobie cat sailing, wave runners, and a water trampoline can all be found at the Lucayan Beach across from Port Lucaya. 5)Visit the Lucayan National Park and go on a kayak or cave tour.
Grand Bahama was a pretty quiet place until American financier, Wallace Groves, began developing it with the vision of the island becoming a resort destination for wealthy Americans, like Cuba was at that time. Things have been booming on this exciting island ever since. People continue to invest and build more resorts, condos, marinas, and casinos on this lovely island. It is an indoor/outdoor beach bar with live music or a DJ usually.
