Freediving Training In The Bahamas With World Champion Freediver, William Trubridge
Freediving training in the Bahamas is offered by world record holder, William Trubridge, on
Long Island
at Dean's Blue Hole. What is freediving? Freediving is an extreme, aquatic sport that is taking the world by storm. The word freediving describes the pure and simple act of diving on a single breath of air. Competitive freediving consists of eight different disciplines that run the gamut from "Static Apnea," holding one's breath while floating face down in a static position, to "No Limits Apnea," during which divers are allowed to a weighted sled to pull them to depth and an inflatable bag to get back to the surface. The sport is governed by the International Association for Development of Apnea, or AIDA International, which was formed in 1992.

Competitions are held all over the world and in 2009, the Sixth AIDA Individual World Championship was held in Long Island, Bahamas at Dean's Blue Hole. The blue hole provides perfect conditions for freediving. This is the reason why William Trubridge offers freediving training courses there through
the Vertical Blue Freediving Apnea Academy
. He has plenty of experience, in 2004, William became an instructor at Umberto Pelizzari's well respected Apnea Academy, and he has been instructing and competing in the industry ever since. On December 13, 2010, William became the first man to freedive to 100 meters with no assistance of any kind! Here is a video of his amazing record dive, please note that due to the high quality of this video, it may take some time to fully load. I like to press the play button to get it started, and then press pause until the bar across the bottom has finished loading. It could take several minutes, but it is totally WORTH IT! Freediving training in the Bahamas is offered several times each year.
