Everything You Need To Know About The Beautiful Bahamas Beaches!
The amazing Bahamas beaches are what I love the most about the Bahamas! And the most amazing thing about them is that there are too many to count! All of the islands have multiple incredible beaches for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, playing, or walking. The
Bahamas Islands
include over 2700 islets and cays and almost every single one has excellent beaches. Bahamas beaches usually are are covered in white, golden, or pink (yes, PINK) sand. The pink sand is made from crushed shells, and all of the Bahamas beach sand is as soft as sugar. There is usually an abundance of coral, seashells, and drift wood on the shore. Since the Bahamas islands are made from coral, there is often exposed limestone bedrock exposed on the beaches. This exposed limestone creates warm tidal pools where fish, crabs, and snails can be examined up close. Every time I explore any of the Bahamas beaches I discover something new, interesting, and beautiful.
Another supercool thing about the beaches of the Bahamas is that you can almost always find one completely to yourself! Even during high season. That is because there are so many. It's easy to do a little island exploration, since the islands are mostly flat and relatively small. We do a lot of walking, but we have also hitched rides and rented cars. However you choose to do you your exploring, all you have to do is look and you can find a breathtakingly beautiful Bahamas beach all to yourself. Coconut palms, white sand, clear water, and coral reefs are all standard for Bahamas beaches too, by the way! And don't forget that you can rent a boat and explore the many smaller deserted islands that can be found all over the place. Some of these will be completely made of limestone, with little sand or vegetation. However, some of them will be miniature island paradises with classic blue lagoon waters washing onto pristine sands where the only footprints for days could be yours.
The thing that I love best about the beaches in the Bahamas is that they are located on both sides of the island. Let me explain. The Bahamas island are often long and narrow, so they are easier to walk across than from one end to the other. They are all situated with an East facing side that we call the "ocean" side, which is where the waves come across the Atlantic forming spectacular surf, which is my this is my husband's favorite kind of beach.
The East facing beaches are on the windward side of the island so they are more rugged as well and have amazing sunrises. The leeward side of the islands face West. This side has beaches too. These are my favorite beaches because they are just as beautiful, but the water is smooth, calm, and usually shallow just off the shore. There is less wind because this is the protected side of the island. The leeward side is where many of the other boaters anchor because it so nice and calm. These are great beaches for children to play on because they are gentle and quiet.
Most of the
Bahamas resorts
have their own private beaches. The resort beaches are usually some of the best in the Bahamas, but don't let that stop you from venturing out on your own to discover more fabulous Bahamas beaches.
Even is they don't have a tiki bar or a hotel on them, they will be worthwhile, maybe even more so because they have been left untouched. The reef is usually healthier off of undeveloped beaches so carry ou mask and snorkel so you can swim out and take a look around beneath the surface of the sea. The beaches of the Bahamas truly have to be seen to be believed. They are our favorite islands in the world because of the incredible beaches, of course the warm weather and crystal clear water help.
